Open Studios Day AGCC is April 30th

Open Studios Day AGCC is a bi-annual event at Angels Gate Cultural Center celebrating who we are and what we do. On April 30 from 12 to 4:p.m. over 50 Studio Artists will open their doors for you to see what they create in their studios.  The Artist in Classroom and Community Class programs demonstrate the work that happens onsite and in the community throughout the year.. Please join us for art, food, music and fun, where all ages will find something to celebrate.

Studio Artist Open House:  Angels Gate Cultural Center is home year round to one of the largest Studio Artist Programs in the region, with a diverse body of disciplines including ceramics, photography, printmaking, music, writing, and filmmaking. On Open Studios Day, 50 artists open their studios to the public to show their work. Several artists will demonstrate their craft and many have artwork for sale. This will be an inspiring, once-a-year opportunity for everyone to share.

Community Class Demonstrations/Performances:   Angels Gate Cultural Center holds a variety of classes from ceramics, printmaking, painting and drawing classes to yoga, dance, meditation, karate and Japanese archery. This year the Community Classes will provide demonstration and performances .The Print Studio will be open demonstrating the different printmaking techniques taught here.

Ceramics/Painting  Demonstrations :  Throughout the day the Ceramicist Community Class Teachers and Studio Artists will be offering free demonstrations in our Ceramics Studio.  Several Studio Artists will offer a view of their work in progress.

Childrens Art Workshops:   Students art from our Artists in Classroom program art will be shown.  Teacher Artists from the Artists in Classrooms program will be leading workshops for all ages, in which they will create their own unique souvenir from Open Studios Day.

Galleries:  In the downstairs galleries are new exhibitions; one curated by Martabel Wasserman, LA Living 

Spaces: Photographs by Ellie Zenhari and the other, and We Will Be Heard: Work by CSUDH

Students co-curated by Ellie Zenhari, photographer and Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Design and Kathy Zimmerer, Director, University Art Gallery, with participating faculty member, Michele Bury, Chair and Professor, Department of Art and Design, CSU Dominguez Hills.

These  exhibitions run through May, 30th

The upstairs galleries host two new exhibitions that address distinct issues concerning housing and development in Southern California through a variety of mediums and visual strategies. In Knockdown Dash by Nicole Capps + James McCarthy and Broken Ground by John Hulsey in collaboration with Alejandro Dobi-Gonzalez, Armin Fardis and Matt M. Mayes, the artists draw on their personal experiences to explore structural concerns. These exhibitions run through May 22nd.
