Modest in size and budget, but bold in ambition, the Fine Arts Gallery at Los Angeles Harbor College remains committed to producing high quality exhibitions by contemporary artists from the West Coast and beyond. (Above image shows the work of Eugene Daub) Diverse and eclectic in scope, the gallery features work of painters, sculptors, photographers, videographers, filmmakers, and architects, providing an essential component to a meaningful arts education and a welcome antidote to the regimen of academic and workaday life.

For students and community members alike, the Gallery is a crucial link to the world of arts professionals. Each exhibition features a “Conversation with the Artist” open to the campus and the community. These events are forums where students of studio art, art history, and architecture, as well as the general public, have the opportunity to participate in wide-ranging question and answer sessions with artists, gallerists, faculty and friends. Topics range from the conceptual aspects of art making to the ideas and motives that inform the physical work, to such technical aspects as selection of materials and appropriate techniques. And, as many artists’ careers began in community college, sharing their experiences with the next generation of potential and aspiring artists is relevant, encouraging, and often inspirational to both the artists and audience.
The Los Angeles Harbor College Fine Arts Gallery is able to fulfill its mission primarily due to the generosity of our donors. It’s through our fundraising efforts that we are able to provide the community with excellent exhibitions and educational programming – and we are able to make these programs free to the public.
